Day 2: Ulaanbaatar – Elsen Tasarkhai Sand Dunes (B/L/D)
Today, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel before proceeding to the Elsen Tasarkhai dunes, located 280 km from Ulaanbaatar. The dunes stretch for 80 km across three different sums (regions). You can enjoy the sand and take splendid photos as the sun shines across the landscape. From the dunes, you will have a magnificent view of the Khugnu Khaan Mountain. Overnight at a tourist camp.
Day 3: Elsen Tasarkhai – Kharkhorin Soum (B/L/D)
Early in the morning, you will have breakfast at the camp. Afterward, head to Khugnu Khaan Mountain to explore Uvgun Temple, which is located at the base of the mountain. Although this temple was massively destroyed three times throughout its history, you can still explore its ruins. Your guide will share the interesting history of the temple and the mountain. Next, drive 100 km to reach Kharkhorin, the ancient capital city of Mongolia.
After dinner, you can hike to a nearby hill that features the Great Khaans’ Monument. From the summit, you can rest and admire the magnificent panoramic view of the Orkhon Valley. Local artisans are often nearby, selling ancient-style souvenirs. Overnight at a tourist camp.
Day 4: Kharkhorin Soum – Hustai National Park (B/L/D)
After breakfast, explore the well-known Erdene Zuu Monastery, which was established in 1585 by Abtai Sain Khan. The monastery is surrounded by a massive wall featuring 108 stupas. Your guide will provide in-depth information about the site's history and significance. Afterward, take a 300 km drive to Hustai National Park, which was designated as a special protected area in 1993 by the Mongolian government. While you will surely enjoy the beautiful natural scenery, the main highlight here is the Przewalski’s horse (Takhi). Stay at a tourist camp.
Day 5: Hustai National Park – Ulaanbaatar (B/D)
After breakfast, we have a 100 km drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, you will be transferred directly to your hotel to refresh.
