Know More:
Terelj National Park’s Siberian boreal forest is home to a variety of exciting forest and steppe birds, including oriental cuckoo, Eurasian hoopoe, Siberian rubythroat, red-throated thrush, Siberian stonechat, white-cheeked starling, dusky warbler, taiga flycatcher, Asian brown flycatcher, and Blyth’s pipit; there are more familiar birds here too, such as great spotted woodpecker, great tit and common buzzard. Two species that require persistence and luck to find here are Chinese bush warbler and black-billed capercaillie.
There are numerous ger camps and resorts in the tourist zone before the Terelj River. The rest of the protection zones start after the Terelj River and become less touristy, and less inhabited with pristine nature. The depths of the mountain forest are rich in wild animals, including boar, red deer, roe deer, fox, wolves, etc while birds of prey fly everywhere. Except for the natural beauty, Terelj was a mining area of smoke stone, amethyst, and pure crystal till 1960.
