Day 1: Travel to Western Mongolia
Morning pick up by your guide at your hotel and transfer to the airport. Flight to Ulgii town, the center of Bayan-Ulgii, the westernmost province of Mongolia. Meet with your guide and local service team. Continue traveling, heading to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park for 100 km. Stay overnight in a tent. LD
Day 2: Travel to Altai Tavan Bogd
Morning, you will continue the drive to Altai Tavan Bogd for 140 km. On the way, you will enjoy ancient statues and archaeological burial sites. Reach our camping spot near the Tuvan ethnic nomads. Enjoy a short hike to a neighboring mountain.
In the evening, you will meet with your local assistants who will care for our entire luggage, camping types of equipment, and food provisions for transportation by pack camels, rented from local people. No vehicle will be supporting our trip for the next seven days. Stay overnight in a tent. BLD
Day 3: Trek to Tavan Bogd Mountains
After a hearty breakfast in the morning, we will trek to the Tavan Bogd Holy Mountains. Enjoy an extraordinary view of Mongolia's highest mountains and glaciers while trekking for about 4-5 hours for 16 km of moderate walking through slightly sloping passes. We will reach a base camp spot on the edge of the Potaniin’s Glacier. Stay overnight in a tent. BLD (altitude app. 3100m above sea level)
Day 4: Climbing to Malchin Mountain
Today we will climb up to the peak of Malchin Mountain, which stretches for 4051m above sea level and is the lowest peak of the Tavan Bogd Mountains. This mountain lies along the borderline of Mongolia and Russia and offers a spectacular view over the Potanin’s glacier and snow-peaked summits of the Altai Mountain Range. Trek back to the base camp. Stay overnight in a tent. BLD (altitude app. 4051m above sea level)
Day 5: Trek to Shiveet Khairkhan
Trekking for 18 km along the Tsagaan River through a stunning valley. Reach the Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain, which is sacred to local people, and it boasts many herds of wild goats – ibex. Visit to the Tuvan nomad family. Overnight stay in a tent. BLD (altitude app. 2500m above sea level)
Day 6: Exploring Ancient Rock Art Gallery – UNESCO World Heritage Site
Trekking for 20 km along the mountain valley of Khar Salaa. Most interestingly, you will explore dear statues and thousands of petroglyphs spanning the past 8-10000 years, keeping secrets of ancient civilizations of nomadic people. On the way to the trek, you will enjoy beautiful small lakes as a home to different spacious water birds. Stay overnight in a tent near a nomadic family. BLD (altitude app. 2450m above sea level)
Day 7: Trek to Mountain Pass Takhilt
Trekking to the mountain pass Takhilt, about 7-8 km. Crossing over the pass will require quite a lot of effort when it is covered by snow. You will continue the trek for about 10 km through the beautiful valley called Baavgait (Bear). Stay overnight in a tent. BLD (altitude app. 3300m above sea level)
Day 8: Trek to Small Lakes
Trek for 16-18 km to your next camping spot, where you will have a fabulous view of the lakes. Stay overnight in a tent. BLD (altitude app. 2200m above sea level)
Day 9: Trekking to Khoton Lake
On our last day trek, we will cover about 25 km to the most beautiful Lake Khoton. Enjoy a miraculous view of the reflection of the surrounding snow-peaked mountains over the lake. Here you will be registered at the Border military base of Aral Tolgoi. Stay overnight in a tent. (altitude app. 2200m above sea level) BLD
Day 10: Relaxing
Today, we will explore another cultural site with hundreds of petroglyphs. Visit a Kazakh nomad family to learn more about their lifestyle and the unique tradition of Golden eagle training for hunting. Afternoon we will have a rest at the campsite. While enjoying breathtaking scenery, you will have an opportunity to learn how to make Mongolian dishes and play traditional games. Stay overnight in a tent. BLD (altitude app. 2200m above sea level)
Day 11: Travel to Ulgii Town
In the morning, we will say goodbye to our local mountain guide, camp assistants, and pack camels. Continue traveling by car for driving about 230 km to Ulgii town. Stay overnight in the Ger camp. BLD
Day 12: Flight back to Ulaanbaatar
Travel to a domestic airport and take a flight to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your hotel. End of the service. B
